Be Lake Wise

Vegetated buffers help to stabilize lake shorelines and filter phosphorus and other pollutants from runoff that enters the lake.

By planting vegetation on lakeshores and removing sea walls, you can help to keep Lake Champlain clean and improve habitat in the lake. The Lake Wise program provides technical assistance and recommendations to improve your property.

The Lake Wise Award certifies a property is well managed, using shoreland Best Management Practices, and is maintained to care for the lake. The program awards lake-friendly shoreland property, including that of state parks, town beaches, private homes and businesses.
